Highway 101 / Welcome to the 101!
May 25, 2006, 12:58:50 PM
US Highway 101 once stretched from Mexico to Canada. In San Diego County, where the road was decomissioned, towns are celebrating the road with Historic Route signs. US 101 comprised much of what was El Camino Real in California, and took motorists north through Oregon and Washington to Canada.

This is the place to talk about all the old sections of 101, and what's happening on the road right now.

The Yellowstone Trail connects Boston, Massachusettes to Chicago and Seattle, Washington. The trail was marked by poles and rocks painted yellow with black arrows pointing to Yellowstone National Park, which could be reached by a spur road from Livingston, Montana. This was one of the most well travelled northern routes across America.

This is the place to discuss the Yellowstone Trail, its old alignments, and current events along its path.

Pikes Peak Ocean to Ocean Highway was the Los Angeles rival to the Lincoln Highway. This is the place to discuss and learn more about this transcontinental road.

The Old Spanish Trail is a transcontinental auto route that was designed as an all year southern highway. Unlike other roads, this road generally could be driven in winter. The OST goes through some of America's most beautiful tourist cities, including St. Augustine, Florida; Mobile, Alabama; New Orleans, Louisiana; San Antonio, Texas; Tucson, Arizona; and San Diego, California.

This board is for you to post articles, announcements, and news about the OST.

The National Park to Park Highway connects the national parks of the western U.S. in a great circle. This road was supported and promoted by the Park Service, and by the National Park to Park Association. This road had, and still has, much tourist potential.

Use this board to discuss America's western national parks and the scenic road connecting them.

This is the home for threads about the National Old Trails Ocean to Ocean Highway. The road was composed of many of America's oldest and most traveled pioneer trails, including the National Road, the Santa Fe Trail, and the Boone's Lick Trail among others. The beginning of the road as an auto route goes back to 1902, making this one of America's first national auto trails. Much of the NOTR in the west eventually became famous Route 66.

This board is for topics realted to the NOTR, its old trails, and the famous Madonnas of the Trail.

Lincoln Highway / Welcome Lincoln Highway fans
May 25, 2006, 09:23:15 AM
The Father Road, named after America's famous president Abraham Lincoln, needs little introduction. The Lincoln was one of the first and most famous of the named auto trails. This is the board for discussions about the Lincoln Highway, its various alignments, and its unique concrete guide markers.

Lee Highway / Drive the Lee Highway
May 25, 2006, 09:19:01 AM
The Lee Highway was one of the major US auto trails. It's name is still used in the eastern US, but the road did go all the way to San Diego. This is the board for threads about this important auto route.

El Camino Real was one of the first signed roads in the state. It was of course originally a Spanish trail connecting the catholic missions, assistencias, the Spanish presidios, and the ranchos in Alta California. However, in the 1910s, the Federation of Women's Clubs, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and later the California auto clubs worked to place unique guideposts for motorists along the whole route. These are California's famous El Camino Real bells, and are still being placed to this day.

Dixie Highway / Down (or up) the Dixie Highway!
May 25, 2006, 09:09:23 AM
The Dixie is more of a road system than a single highway. It generally goes from Florida to the Great Lake states of Illinois and Michigan. There were two main north-south routes on the Dixie. It also had several roads connecting the two branches that were like rungs on a ladder.

This board is the place to post threads about the Dixie in your state, or events or topics along the Highway that would be of general interest to everyone.

Other U.S. Highways / All the other roads

Are you a fan of US 2 along America's nothern border? Or do you like driving lonely US 50 in Nevada? If so, this is the place to open a thread about your favorite highway. If any of the highways here seems to warrant it's own board by having multiple long threads, I'd consider opening a new one for the road.

There were hundreds of auto trails in the USA. This board allows folks to talk about specific auto trails not covered in the other boards. Feel free to start a thread here about your favorite named road. Whether you are interested in the Magnolia Trail, the Midland Trail, the Arrowhead Highway, or any other, this is the place to talk about them. If any of the threads gets big enough, I would consider opening up a new board to cover the road.

General Auto Trail Topics / Auto trails
May 25, 2006, 08:52:52 AM
Any subject that would be of interest to everone interested in America's old auto trails would fit here. U.S. auto trails flourished during the dawn of the automobile era. Most auto trail associations were active between 1910 and 1930. Also, if you are from another nation, and would like to relate the history of roads in your country for the early 20th century period, it would be great to see that here, too.

Off Topic / Off topic board

This is the board for general silliness, and subjects that are not directly road related.

I would ask that folks don't go too far afield in their discussions here. This forum is not the place to talk about hotbed issues. There are lots of other forums on the internet to get all steamed up or to vent frustrations.

Please, no advertising for products or services unrelated to the subject matter of the site. Any such advertising will be removed.
